Extension

Extension is the process of enabling change in individuals, communities and industries involved in the primary industry sector. It aims to drive the adoption of knowledge and new concepts which support improved productivity and sustainability.

Extension planning

Creating an extension plan will set your project up for success in bringing about change.  There are six steps in an extension plan; each step is briefly explained below. You can use the extension plan template to help you develop and document your extension plan. The resources below are intended to guide you through creating an extension plan.

Monitoring and evaluation

Monitoring and evaluation (M & E) refers to the process of collecting information to assess how well an extension plan is being implemented (Monitoring) and whether outcomes and impacts are being achieved (Evaluation). It can involve identifing SMART indicators (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) to track progress. When designing M & E you may consider these questions: how will you collect data? (Eg. surveys, interviews, or focus groups), how will you analyse it? Quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods? How you will report on your project, how often and in what form, (e.g. a written report, dashboard, or infographic). The three M & E resources below will get you started.
