New Zealand’s
crop production
is changing for
the better

A unique opportunity has opened up for New Zealand to become the world’s preferred supplier of plant-based food products. Brand, reputation, and provenance of food are now important to consumers and they are willing to pay more for food from trusted sources, that’s safe, and has a sound provenance.

To take advantage of this rapidly emerging market, and protect the reputation of New Zealand food, the plant-based food sector has come together to change its approach to crop production – to transition from agrichemical pest management to agroecological crop protection.

This project is
expected to benefit
New Zealand by:

Increased value of New Zealand’s horticultural, arable and wine exports.
Maintaining the social licence to farm for New Zealand horticulture and arable cropping.
Enhancing the value of New Zealand’s reputation and brand.
Increased investment in the horticulture, arable and wine sectors.
Increased diversity of New Zealand agricultural production.
Introducing new technology and management know-how into New Zealand’s economy.
