Decision making in real world cropping situations using the Sustainable Vegetable Systems (SVS) Tool is the subject of a series of free workshops for growers and advisors.
The hands-on workshops offer attendees the opportunity to learn about and use the SVS decisions support tool in a supportive learning environment.
Growers and advisors, who want to take a practical approach to improving crop nitrogen management are welcome to attend the workshops, even if they have not attended workshop one.
Registrations are open now for Workshop 2 – Applying SVS to your crops. Dates and locations are;
Pukekohe and online: Tuesday, 22 September 2026, 8.30-10.30am (morning tea at 10.30am)
Tairawhiti: Thursday, 24 September 2026, 4.00 -6.00pm (refreshments following workshop)
Horowhenua: Thursday, 8 October 2026, 12.30-2.30pm (lunch from 12pm)
Hawke’s Bay (Havelock North): Friday, 16 October 2026, 8.30-10.30am (morning tea at 10.00am)
Hawke’s Bay (Central): Friday, 16 October 2026, 1.00 -3.00pm (lunch from 12.30pm)
Canterbury: Tuesday, 10 November 2026, 3.30-5.30pm (refreshments following workshop)
Participants need to bring their crop details to input (planting and harvest dates, target yield, N fert plan, soil N tests) and start building their crop nitrogen budget and have explored the SVS Tool.
Workshop 3 – End of season review and learnings, and Workshop 4 – Planning for next season will be held 1 April – 4 May and 1 July – 29 July 2027. More details on dates and times for each location for the 2027 workshops are on the Horticulture NZ website.
The workshops are funded by HortNZ, Potatoes New Zealand, Vegetables Research & Innovation and the Ministry for Primary Industries and delivered in partnership with the Foundation for Arable Research, NZ Vegetable Council and Pukekohe, Tararua, Tairawhiti and Canterbury Grower Associations.
