A Lighter Touch (ALT) is hosting a series of educational webinars on soilborne diseases in spring.
Since ALT started, soilborne diseases have been among the highest ranking crop protection gaps across all crop sectors. They can cause significant crop losses, costing growers millions of dollars in some sectors, such as buttercup squash.
Soilborne diseases are caused by pathogens, or disease causing organisms, residing in the soil that infect plants. These pathogens, often fungi, bacteria, or nematodes, can cause a range of issues, including root rot, wilting, and decreased plant health. Understanding these diseases and their impact on plants is crucial for effective disease management and maintaining healthy crops.
Planning for the webinar series, covering these themes is underway
- Why are soilborne diseases so challenging?
- Nematodes and their relationship with soilborne diseases
- A deep dive into some of the key soilborne diseases
- Future innovations for soilborne disease control
Each online session will be 60 to 90 minutes in length, and will be scheduled weekly. Further details and registration will be shared in next month’s A Lighter Touch newsletter.
