This case study resource details the establishment, management and grower experience of establishing a biodiverse understory in apricots at Fairview Orchard in Roxburgh as part of the Summerfruit NZ- ALT understory planting project.
Two other case studies were produced during the project, one from a UFO cherry orchard in Cromwell and another from a central leader cherry orchard in Cromwell.
The growers involved trialled the establishment of beneficial plant species under and between the rows of fruit trees, with the aim of increasing beneficial insect populations to control orchard pests and improve soil health.
