This case study resource details the establishment, management and grower experience of establishing a biodiverse understory in cherries at Affleck Orchard in Cromwell as part of the Summerfruit NZ- ALT understory planting project.

Two other case studies were produced during the project, one from an apricot orchard in Roxburgh and another from a UFO cherry orchard in Cromwell.

The growers involved trialled the establishment of beneficial plant species under and between the rows of fruit trees, with the aim of increasing beneficial insect populations to control orchard pests and improve soil health.
