A Lighter Touch (ALT) is establishing a community of practice for people working in extension to enable peer-to-peer learning, networking and sharing best practice.
Whether you work for a product or levy group partner, or as an advisor or supplier to plant-based food sectors, if you work in extension you are welcome to join the network and contribute.
The initial online meeting on December 1 will determine how the community of practice will work and best support the needs of the people who want to be a part of it.
Sharing knowledge and resources from ALT to growers is fundamental to moving from agrichemical reliance to more sustainable crop protection practices.
In recent months ALT has ramped up support and capability building in extension for product groups. This community of practice is a part of that strategic focus, and on ensuring ALT product group partners and their growers get maximum value from their investment in the programme.

Attendees take a coffee break at an ALT hosted workshop on extension planning.
As ALT Programme Director Livia Esterhazy says, it’s important results and findings reach growers, and don’t end up sitting on shelves in reports, gathering dust.
ALT, together with extension experts Scarlatti, has hosted a series workshops focused on extension planning and monitoring and evaluation. The idea of creating a community of practice was spurred by feedback and discussion with workshop attendees.
