Our first newsletter for 2026 begins with the global landscape, reviewing ALT programme director Livia Esterhazy’s participation at the Annual Biological International Meeting (ABIM) Conference in Switzerland. We also share findings from a global review of regulatory processes for registering biopesticides, part of ALT’s regulatory pathway improvement project.

We introduce three new projects of cross-sector interest, one focused on quantifying the return on biodiversity investment, another testing biological products to manage bacterial disease in tomatoes and the third on proactive resistance screening in boysenberries.

The latest ALT podcast series showcases a project which delivered an integrated pest management (IPM) programme for passionvine hopper, not reliant on agrichemicals, and we review the Summerfruit NZ understory field walks in Central Otago and Hawke’s Bay as well as sharing photography tips for insect identification.
