This webinar series was presented as part of the A Lighter Touch enhancing agroecosystems project focusing on biodiverse planting in perennial crops. Dr Charles Merfield (“Merf”), head of the BHU Future Farming Centre at Lincoln University, delivers the presentations to introduce the audience to the concepts of agroecology, with examples of crop protection and the different forms of biological control with a focus on conservation biocontrol. The final webinar covered the application of these concepts to two Gisborne citrus orchards, used as the model crops in the A Lighter Touch project.
The programme, over three webinars, covered:
- Introduction and explainer of agroecology;
- Introduction and explainer of biocontrol;
- How we have applied this agroecosystem enhancement and biocontrol theory in the Gisborne citrus project.
