This case study resource details the management of a winter lettuce crop utilising integrated pest management (IPM) and biodiversity as key strategies, having been produced from knowledge gathered from projects at the Pukekohe demonstration farm.
A partnership between A Lighter Touch, Vegetables New Zealand and Onions New Zealand, the farm is demonstrating how increasing biodiversity on vegetable farms can result in more beneficial insects, fewer insect pests in crops and less insecticides required.
Weekly informal IPM workshops with growers and industry members were held, showcasing the practical application of IPM in the field during winter.
This is the second case study resource produced from the demonstration farm, with the first sharing the crop protection approach taken in successfully harvesting a marketable spring lettuce crop.
