This case study resource details the management of a spring lettuce crop utilising integrated pest management (IPM) and biodiversity as key strategies, having been produced from knowledge gathered from projects at the Pukekohe demonstration farm.
A partnership between A Lighter Touch, Vegetables New Zealand and Onions New Zealand, the farm is demonstrating how increasing biodiversity on vegetable farms can result in more beneficial insects, fewer insect pests in crops and less insecticides required.
Last spring and summer a series of educational IPM workshops were held at the farm, involving crop monitoring and IPM decision-making in a spring lettuce crop, followed by a summer broccoli crop.
The newly released case study resource shares the crop protection approach taken in successfully harvesting the marketable spring lettuce crop.
