Project 3:
Beyond 2027
Milestone 3.1
Institute for agroecological crop protection established

March 31, 2027
Progress
The review of options for the structure, function, funding and governance of an Institute for Agroecological Crop Protection has been delayed while the outcomes of the 2021 Strategy Session are implemented.
Milestone 3.2
Telling our story
Telling the credible, evidence based story of the horticulture, arable and wine sectors’ progress towards adopting agroecology as the basis for crop protection in export markets and domestically. December 31, 2021 - Promotional plan, strategy and budget developed for approval by the PGG
December 31, 2022 - Credible, evidence-based progress towards adopting agroecology is the basis for telling our story

March 31, 2027
Progress
The work on “Telling our Story” has been delayed pending the allocation of additional communications resources to support this work.
Milestone 3.3
Agroecology the basis for sector pest management programmes
Benchmarking crop protection programmes and monitoring the implementation of agroecological crop protection practices.
April 1, 2020
September 30, 2020 - Stock-take of the pest management programmes used by each industry to provide a benchmark of the current state
March 31, 2021 - Plan developed for incorporating programme outcomes into crop protection programmes, updated annually Report on progress with the adoption of agroecological crop protection practices, compared to the Y1 benchmark, prior to the mid-term Programme Review and again in Year 6.
March 31, 2027
Progress
The stock-take of the pest management programmes has been revised to become an annual stock-take. This approach will better measure the changes taking place in crop protection practices.
While information has been received from about half of programme participants, some sectors have found it difficult to supply the required information. In 2022-23, additional resources are being provided to support the collection of this information.
