Boysenberries New Zealand represents 20 commercial growers farming 206 hectares, producing 2,700 tonnes annually, with half of the national crop exported as frozen berries. Boysenberries are mainly used as an ingredient in jams and preserves, ice cream, drinks, yoghurt, and baked products.
Health benefits from antioxidants and other phytochemicals found in purple berry fruit has increased awareness and interest in boysenberries.
The boysenberry industry’s long term goal is to produce a sustainable crop without the use of today’s chemicals. Boysenberries NZ aims to achieve this as a partner on A Lighter Touch.
