Introducing biodiversity into the farm environment, with an emphasis on the benefits of doing so, is the focus of an A Lighter Touch educational forum being held at the Pukekohe demonstration farm on March 21, 2024.
The forum will include classroom, and field presentations on the following topics:
- Why a biodiverse landscape is important on farm, the relationship between natural biodiversity and the farming environment, and why it is beneficial from a crop protection perspective;
- Benefits of beneficial insects in the system, particularly in relation to pest control;
- Improving native biodiversity – details of the A Lighter Touch projects at the demonstration farm, including a field visit;
- A grower perspective – a commercial will give their experience of incorporating biodiverse planting into their vegetable farming operation, and where they see the benefits.
Those not able to attend in person can join online for the classroom presentations. More detail is available on our registration page.
